We
are pleased to announce the conference The Art of Ageing. An International,
Interdisciplinary Conference on Textualising the
Phases of Life.
The
topic of ageing is one of the oldest and most
significant of all social discourses and affects all
societies and every person. In the contemporary
world, however, the progressive ageing of the global
population has created a series of phenomena and
priorities which impinge on our world-views, our
life-styles and the way we perceive ourselves. The
aim of this conference is to provide a forum for the
presentation and discussion of aspects of the ageing
process in a debate which is becoming increasingly
immediate and urgent.
This
conference will present the challenges and effects of
ageing in its diverse cultural and social
manifestations, leading to a deeper understanding of
the process and the questioning and deconstruction of
prejudices, misconceptions and taboos inherent in a
phenomenon in which we are all involved. Apart from
perceptions of ageing as presented in literature, the
conference will be open to discussion of the ageing
process from the point of view of health, sociology,
politics, religion, economics and the mass media.
Plenary
sessions, papers and round tables
The
conference will be made up of plenary sessions,
presentations of contributors papers and round
tables. Contributors of papers should plan for a
presentation of their individual papers of not more
than 20 minutes.
