Sue Grafton (1940 - )

Sue Grafton, born in Louisville, Kentucky, on 24th April 1940, is the writer of the well-known detective series that features private investigator Kinsey Millhone. After some first unsuccessful novels, Sue Grafton decided to devote her interest to writing screenplays for television films. At the age of 42, in the middle of a six-year custody battle with her ex-husband, she decided to use her rage against him and create a mystery novel, as she always explains when questioned about how the Kinsey Millhone series started. The 23rd book in the series, W is for Wasted, will be released in September 2013. Currently Sue Grafton is happily married with her third husband, has three children from previous marriages and several grandchildren. She divides her time between her two homes, one in Montecito, California, and the other in Louisville, Kentucky.

Awards: Anthony Award for Best Novel in 1986 for B is for Burglar, in 1987 for C is for Corpse, and in 1991, for G is for Gumshoe; Shamus Award for best private investigator hardcover novel for B is for Burglar in 1986, for G is for Gumshoe in 1991 and for K is for Killer in 1995; Anthony Award for Best Short Story in 1987 for “The Parker Shotgun”; the 2000 YWCA of Lexington smith-Breckinridge Distinguished Woman of Achievement Award; the 2004 Ross Macdonald Literary Award; the 2008 Cartier Dagger by the British Crime Writers’ Association; and the 2009 Grand Master Award by the Mystery Writers of America.
